How to make open fire camp pies

Gather your ingredients and tools. Sliced bread, butter and your favorite filling ... Pie fillings, cheese, ham and cheese, peanut butter and chocolate ... the possibilities are endless!

Have a fire prepared with red hot coals.

Generously butter 2 slices of bread. For this guide I have used a bread swirled with blueberries.

Lay one of the buttered pieces of bread, butter side down in the pie iron.

Top it with your favorite pie filling, I have blueberry here.

Place the other buttered slice of bread, butter side up, on top of the filling.

Carefully attach the other pie iron on top of the camp pie ...

... and close tightly.

Use a butter knife, or plastic knife (you are camping) and remove the excess bread that is sticking out of the pie iron.

Carefully hold the pie iron over the red hot coals. Rotate pie iron every couple of minutes, for even cooking. After the first pie, they go quicker because the iron will be hot.

Carefully peak inside and see how the pie is progressing. If it's too light, return it back to the heat. Continue heating until golden brown.

Perfect. See how many combinations you can come up with. Peanut butter, marshmallow and chocolate bars are a family favorite! Be careful removing the pie from the hot pie iron.

Perfect! The possibilities are endless! Remember to use hot pads when setting the iron down to prep the next pie. The hot iron can scorch your work surface.

Delicious! Serve alone, with ice cream or dust it with powdered sugar. Enjoy ️!
